Tickets And Pricing
Learn how to create ticket types, set prices, and manage promo codes
What are tickets?
Tickets are how people register for your event. Each ticket type represents a different way someone can attend. For example, you might have an "Early Bird" ticket, a "Regular" ticket, and a "VIP" ticket.
Tickets can be free or paid. You can also control when tickets are available, how many are sold, and who can buy them.
Creating ticket types
To create a new ticket type, follow these steps:
- Go to your event page
- Click on the "Registration" tab
- Find the "Tickets" section
- Click "Add Ticket Type"
- Fill in the ticket details
- Click "Create Ticket"
Ticket details you need to provide
- Ticket name: Give your ticket a clear name like "General Admission" or "VIP Pass"
- Description: Explain what this ticket includes
- Price: Set the ticket price in dollars, or enter 0 for free tickets
- Quantity available: How many of these tickets you want to sell
- Sales start date: When this ticket becomes available to buy
- Sales end date: When this ticket stops being available
- Min per order: Minimum number someone must buy
- Max per order: Maximum number someone can buy in one purchase
Tip:Create multiple ticket types at different prices to encourage early registration. For example, offer an "Early Bird" ticket at $50, then a "Regular" ticket at $75.
Setting prices
You can set any price you want for your tickets. EventNerds handles all the payment processing for you.
Understanding fees
When you sell paid tickets, EventNerds charges a small fee:
- 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction (this is the payment processing fee)
- 0.5% platform fee on Starter and Pro plans
You can choose to pass these fees on to your attendees or absorb them yourself.
Note: If you pass fees to attendees, they will see the total price including fees at checkout. If you absorb fees, you will receive less money per ticket sold.
Free vs paid tickets
You can create both free and paid tickets for the same event.
Free tickets
Free tickets are great for community events, meetups, or when you want to track attendance without collecting money. To create a free ticket, just set the price to $0.
Paid tickets
Paid tickets let you collect money from attendees. When someone buys a paid ticket, they will pay through Stripe. The money goes into your Stripe account, and you can transfer it to your bank whenever you want.
To sell paid tickets, you need to connect your Stripe account in your organization settings.
Ticket availability windows
You can control when each ticket type is available for purchase. This is useful for creating early bird tickets or flash sales.
Setting availability dates
When you create a ticket, you can set:
- Sales start date: The ticket becomes available at this date and time
- Sales end date: The ticket stops being available at this date and time
For example, you could have "Early Bird" tickets that are only available from January 1st to February 1st, and "Regular" tickets that become available on February 2nd.
Tip: Make sure your ticket availability dates do not overlap if you want to force people to buy the cheaper early bird tickets first.
Min and max per order
You can control how many tickets someone can buy in a single order.
Minimum per order
This is the smallest number of tickets someone must buy. For example, if you set the minimum to 2, people must buy at least 2 tickets. This is useful for couples tickets or group discounts.
Maximum per order
This is the largest number of tickets someone can buy in one purchase. For example, if you set the maximum to 5, people cannot buy more than 5 tickets at once. This prevents scalpers from buying all your tickets.
Note: People can still make multiple purchases if they want to buy more than your maximum. The limit only applies to a single checkout.
Promo codes
Promo codes let you offer discounts to specific people or groups. You can create unlimited promo codes for each event.
Creating promo codes
To create a promo code, follow these steps:
- Go to your event page
- Click on the "Registration" tab
- Find the "Promo Codes" section
- Click "Add Promo Code"
- Fill in the promo code details
- Click "Create Promo Code"
Promo code types
EventNerds supports two types of promo codes:
- Percentage discount: Takes a percentage off the ticket price (for example, 20% off)
- Fixed amount discount: Takes a specific dollar amount off (for example, $10 off)
Promo code settings
When you create a promo code, you can set:
- Code: The text people will enter at checkout (for example, "EARLYBIRD")
- Discount type: Percentage or fixed amount
- Discount value: How much to discount
- Usage limit: How many times this code can be used
- Valid from: When this code becomes active
- Valid until: When this code expires
- Ticket types: Which tickets this code can be used on
Tip:Create unique promo codes for different marketing channels so you can track which promotions work best. For example, use "TWITTER20" for Twitter and "EMAIL20" for email campaigns.
Managing ticket inventory
EventNerds automatically tracks how many tickets have been sold and how many are left.
Viewing ticket sales
On the Registration tab, you can see:
- How many tickets have been sold for each type
- How many tickets are still available
- Total revenue from ticket sales
Adjusting inventory
You can change the quantity available for any ticket type at any time. If you need to add more tickets, just edit the ticket type and increase the quantity.
Sold out tickets
When a ticket type sells out, it will show as "Sold Out" on your registration page. You can still edit the ticket to add more inventory if needed.
Note: If you decrease the quantity available below the number already sold, EventNerds will warn you. Existing ticket holders will keep their tickets, but no new tickets can be sold.
Best practices for tickets
Here are some tips for setting up tickets:
- Create early bird tickets to encourage people to register early
- Use clear, descriptive names for your ticket types
- Set reasonable maximums per order to prevent ticket hoarding
- Create promo codes for sponsors, speakers, and VIP guests
- Test your checkout process before promoting your event
- Monitor ticket sales regularly and adjust prices if needed
